IT Leadership Program

Because the program is structured over a 9-month period, I was able to practice these new methodologies and receive coaching after each session. This was by far the best leadership program I’ve attended in my career, and I’m grateful for the experience.

The ITLP Commitment

Background

ITLP is a unique professional development opportunity and one that requires a high level of participation and engagement, both during and after the program.

All three programs provide opportunities for established and emerging IT leaders on campus to further develop their leadership skills, broaden their professional networks, and engage more deeply in the IT leadership community.

The BTAA IT and Universities of Wisconsin Leaders Programs

The BTAA and Universities of Wisconsin IT Leaders Program cycle is a commitment of two years. The first year spans approximately 10 months and consists of workshops and facilitated applied learning sessions. In addition, cohort members will complete reading and research assignments and participate in coaching sessions. Participants can expect to spend at least 1 to 2 hours a week on ITLP-related activities.

During the second year, cohort members serve as facilitators for the applied learning sessions of the incoming year’s ITLP participants.

Lead From Where You Are

The Lead From Where You Are program spans approximately 8 months and consists of workshops and applied learning sessions. In addition, cohort members will complete reading and research assignments and participate in coaching sessions. Participants can expect to spend at least 1 to 2 hours a week on ITLP-related activities.

After completion of the program, participants are expected to meet with their cohort quarterly during the following year to maintain and grow their cohort community bonds and to continually develop new skills. Participants are also strongly encouraged to participate in ITLP Forward events and other IT Connects programming.

Alumni

We encourage ITLP alumni to continue to engage with the ITLP community after they complete their program commitments. Program alumni can stay connected to the ITLP community through networking and special event attendance. Cohorts in their first and second year are also welcome to participate.

This high level of participation ensures the ITLP community at UW–‍Madison stays active and engaged both during and after the program. These opportunities also allow participants to practice and grow their leadership skills and abilities.

Alumni are also encouraged to join the ITLP Forward committee within IT Connects and to offer their time as coaches and facilitators in annual programming.

The MOR leadership program has been one of the best investment of career, as far as training goes. It gave me a new perspective about what a leadership is about. It helps me understand that we all should be a leader, by being a change agent, at our individual level within our organization. I have constantly used many of the tools, and techniques taught to us during the program in my decision-making processes.

Fees & Nomination Process

The CIO’s office covers the cost of tuition. Fees for travel, lodging, and per diem are the responsibility of the School/College/Division of the participant. Costs vary by program and cohort.

The application and selection processes are facilitated by ITLP Forward, a subcommittee of UW IT Connects. A review committee makes selection recommendations to the CIO. Final cohorts will then be approved and notified.

The MOR Leaders Program was and has been the best Leadership program that I’ve attended during my career. The most valuable takeaways for me were the connections I made throughout and after the program, and the training that helped me to assess any situation with different perspectives.
