2022 MSAN Institute

As our schools continue to see high levels of student trauma and educator exhaustion, it seems particularly important that we center the mental health of our students and educators during the Institute this year. To this end, we encourage breakout session proposal submissions that will assist us in building our collective knowledge base around MSAN’s annual R&D focus area: Equity-Centered Social Emotional Learning and Radical Self-Care. As in other years, we also invite educators to share research-based strategies and promising practices that have demonstrated a significant impact on student academic achievement and sense of belonging. This national conference is open to individuals and groups from MSAN member districts as well as the general public.
MSAN Institute breakout sessions are 60-minutes long. They highlight successful practices for classroom teachers, building or district-level decision makers, student services staff (e.g., school counselors), and family engagement leaders. Sessions may outline current initiatives as well as inform future research. Breakout session descriptions should be:
1) clearly written with clear learning objectives provided;
2) represent best practices in adult learning strategies (e.g., participant engagement is active and connected to current
work context), and session is
3) in alignment with the MSAN mission and if applicable, the 2022 focus area, equity-centered SEL and radical self-care.
If you have any questions or if you would like to see examples of breakout session from previous years, please contact the MSAN office at
connie.showalter@wisc.edu or (608) 263-1565.
