We are thrilled to announce that ward-winning journalist Kynala Phillips will moderate a panel discussion titled “Food Justice: From sovereignty to security in Wisconsin” at noon on Wednesday, June 22, at the Women’s Leadership Summit.

The second annual Summit will take place June 20 – July 1, with one session at noon each day streamed on Facebook Live. It is free and open to the public.

A longtime Madison365 reporter, Phillips is now an engagement journalist and digital production assistant at the Kansas City Star.  Her work centers on local narratives with national impact. She is passionate about connecting with new audiences through strong reporting, creative content, and event planning.

Phillips has experience working at the national level but her passion is highlighting the cultural and regional identities in the Midwest. Her goal is to use her background in engagement journalism and hyperlocal reporting to build with communities on the ground while offering a platform for more nuanced representation.

She won the 2021 Milwaukee Press Club Gold award for best hard news feature for her reporting on Black maternal health disparities in Green Bay.
