Job Description:

The College of Engineering and Applied Sciences of the University at Albany seeks applicants for two tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professors, beginning Fall 2023 for its Electrical and Computer Engineering Department.

The successful candidate is expected to develop an externally funded research program in electrical and computer engineering. In addition, the applicant will be responsible for teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including both fundamental lower-division courses and upper-division and graduate courses related to their area of expertise. Teaching assignments will be determined by the candidate's expertise and the needs of the Department.  

Faculty are expected to provide service to the College and their home departments and programs by participating in governance as well as providing professional service to the community and their disciplines. The successful applicant will be expected to actively mentor undergraduate and graduate students, including underserved and historically underrepresented students, and participate in pipeline programs to help build a diverse and representative student population.

Applicants must have a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline, from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization or anticipate completion by May 2023.

Areas of particular interest include, but are not limited to, computer architecture, distributed systems, edge and cloud computing, control systems, cyber-physical systems, power and energy systems, intelligent systems, robotics, compilers, neuromorphic computing, microelectronics, and wireless communications and networking.


Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a closely related d discipline from a college or university by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization by May 2023.
  • Applicants must address in their application their ability to work with a culturally diverse population.
  • Successful applicants will present/have a record of research accomplishments in an area that aligns with electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • A commitment to teaching, research, and service in an interdisciplinary environment.
  • Applicants must address their plan for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in varying modalities including in-person, online, and/or hybrid.
  • Applicants must address their plan for building a research program that attracts research funding, supports graduate students, and produces scholarly works.
  • Effective communication skills as demonstrated through interviews

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated success in research, evidenced by a strong publication record and leadership and/or participation in sponsored research.
  • Record of effective teaching in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related discipline evidenced by application materials.

Professional Rank and Salary Range: Associate Professor (10 months) OR  Assistant Professor (10 months), competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience
