We decided to merge my journey in building Cybersem into the structure it is today with the groups of individuals who have been instrumental in its growth. Thursdays are now dedicated to the courses that are currently available and those that are in construction over the summer to be available in the fall semester. The first class I have chosen to focus on is Accelerated Chumash for Students. This excellently written course uses the curriculum that the children typically learn in the Day School system between grades 2-6 or 7 and presents it for an adult audience. It is 12 weeks long and can be used in several different instances. I will focus on one of these today. It has been my dream for so long to run this course for students transitioning to a Jewish High School from a secular one over the summer between June and the end of August. These students are usually bright and interested but are lacking the skills to follow the text-based classes in their new environment. Here is a solution. Usually offered as 2-6 week classes, for the students I run it over the summer. Prizma ran an article a couple of months ago where they quoted the statistics of how many requests the Day Schools were receiving even last winter from parents who wanted to transfer their children into Jewish Schools, High Schools amongst them. I can only imagine with the latest upsurge of antisemitism in the college campuses, the interest in Jewish schools has increased again. What is Afterschool Professionals Appreciation Week? ●     Afterschool Professionals Appreciation Week is a time to recognize, appreciate and advocate for those who work with young people during out-of-school hours.   Afterschool professionals deserve recognition, appreciation, and support for their work with kids, families, and communities.  ●      An estimated 7.8 million young people participate in afterschool programs yearly in the U.S.  ●      Over 850,000 afterschool professionals--those who work with children and youth during out-of-school time–are part of a highly skilled and valuable profession. However, they are often not recognized or appreciated for their essential work. ●      Research shows that afterschool professionals are the key to the program quality that mitigates risk factors and positively impacts youth outcomes.
