Untold Stories from UW Athletics History

Whether it’s the die-hard Badger fanbase, legendary players and coaches, iconic stadiums, or the chants and cheers that ring throughout dozens of arenas during any sporting event, it’s hard to miss the culture surrounding athletics at UW-Madison. These elements are just some of the most prominent characteristics of sports at UW, but the long history of athletics on campus is also filled with countless stories that may not have been heard since they first occurred. Students in a brand-new Communication Arts course taught this spring, History of UW Sports and Media, worked in groups to conduct research and shed light on some of these stories that are under or unexplored throughout the history of UW Athletics.

Honoring the 2025 Distinguished Alumni Winners in Communication Arts

Many UW–Madison graduates who earn a degree in Communication Arts go on to accomplish incredible things. 2025 marks the second time our department will honor some of our most outstanding alumni with Distinguished Alumni Awards. These awards recognize the accomplishments of alumni who have made major contributions to the public good, developed successful careers soon after graduating, shared their ideas and time with the department so our program continuously grows stronger, and built cutting-edge research programs at other campuses and institutions. Each of the 2025 award recipients is an outstanding example of what is possible with a degree in Communication Arts, and we are thrilled to honor them this year.

Love, Links, Archives: The Wendy Clarke Collection

The Wisconsin Center for Film and Theater Research (WCFTR) has recently unveiled its latest archival project: Love, Links, Archives: The Wendy Clarke Collection. Funded by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the project team digitized 837 tapes, across 14 different video formats. The new website shares Clarke’s work on ambitious projects such as The Love Tapes, The Link,  and One on One where she invited people from diverse backgrounds to appear on camera and share their feelings, ideas, and stories. This collection is a special audiovisual archive of American life from the 1970s through the current day. The WCFTR is excited to share this digital and searchable resource with the world and allow the voices in each Love Tape to be heard once again.
